An HTML/CSS tutorial

August 20, 2009 by avinashsaniva

logo

I came across this website dedicated purely for a tutorial on HTML/CSS. The first positive thing was the way the tutorial was organized into three ‘levels’ for  HTML and CSS. The striking difference from every other tutorial you can find over the web is that they have the W3C standards at their heart. The learners are made to imbibe the standards into the very first example page, thus making them ‘part of the design’ on the long run.

Travian – addiction guauranteed

June 22, 2009 by avinashsaniva

travian-logo-2007

In spite of my aversion to over-advertising, I took up travian for ‘just a look’. That was two weeks ago. Till this moment the most part of my daily life has gone (and will continue to go) for the game. Can a static picture with some changing numbers make an impression to people who dote on strategy games like age of empires and empire earth? Well, I am more than convinced. Try it once and get ready to miss out work deadlines, miss classes, strain relationships, disturb your physiological cycle and what not. But unlimited fun is guaranteed!

A JavaScript Book

June 3, 2009 by avinashsaniva

jsftab_

An amazing experience, rather than a book. Andy wants us to learn JavaScript the way he and his brother learnt programming – writing interactive games -  and succeeds quite well too. This book can cater to you even if you are a newbie in the world of programming. Surprisingly it suits moderately experienced web programmers too.

Verdict: More a workbook than a bookshelf reference.

Deccan Chargers – The IPL 2009 Champs

May 25, 2009 by avinashsaniva

The crazy season has come to a fabulous end and the greatest thing is that it has kept people playing the guessing game till the very end. Gilchrist – The Gentleman is worthy to lay his hands on the coveted trophy, and what a celebration!

Taskbar shuffle

tshuffle

How many times have you dreamt of a way to rearrange the taskbar buttons. Most people don’t like to group similar taskbar buttons as it proves to be a headache to find their button under a group each time. So they prefer to expand the taskbar to a couple of rows to accomodate more buttons. This is where rearranging the taskbar buttons comes in handy.

Taskbar Shuffle is a handy, light-weight and completely free utility that enables you to drag and drop the taskbar buttons on the taskbar at your wish. This is one must-use utility for heavy taskbar users.

Data recovery

May 4, 2009 by avinashsaniva

datarec

All of a sudden my 80% full 500 GB hard disc turns into a brick. What a nightmare!

Guess what… I found God in this piece of software. I chose to recover the partitions in the main menu and I got back every single file from the brick.

Check out DaFont

April 28, 2009 by avinashsaniva

dafont

I recently came across this website which serves as a repository for fonts. Actualy… much more. It has a huge collection organized under categories. In addition to a preview and download, it offers you customization to the level where you can enter your own text and see the font do its magic. you can even save the result as a PNG image.

Vital Statictics

April 20, 2009 by avinashsaniva

Two numbers can be sufficient to gain a preliminary idea of your health condition. These are very easy to calculate and can be done at home. All you need is a tape and a weighing machine.

fitness

Body Mass Index (BMI): A measure of your body weight in proportion to height. In spite of having its limitations, it continues to remain one of the most reliable way to determine weight related problems. The BMI can be calculated by dividing your weight by the square of your height.

BMI Condition
< 18.5 Underweight
18.5 – 22.9 Normal
23 – 26.9 Overweight
> 27 Obese

Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR): The name says it all. You can have a control on the shape of your body by maintaining your WHR within its limits. But the recommended stats are different for men and women.

Men Waist < 34″ Hip < 40″
Women Waist < 31.5″ Hip < 34.5″
